The Island of Mull is served with excellent ferry links either from Oban on the mainland, Lochaline, Morvern, or Kilchoan on the Ardnamurchan peninsula.
Rock Cottage is situated on the edge of the historic village of Dervaig on the north coast of Mull. Dervaig is 9 miles from Tobermory and approximately 4 miles from Calgary Beach. The village has a small post office with well stocked shop. There is also Coffee and Books which serves coffee and sells a good range of books and general stores. The Bellachroy Hotel in the village is open to non residents for drinks and meals. All of these are within a short walk of Rock Cottage. Nearby there are wildlife tour operators both on land and sea, plenty of walks, off road cycle routes, the Mull Sea Eagle Hide, standing stones, the Old Byre Heritage Centre, Calgary Art in Nature, abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery.
